USTA Georgia Board Member & Rome Tennis Icon Bill Thornton Dies At 90

Rome tennis icon Bill Thornton passed away on April 28th at the age of 90.

Bill was a former member of the Coosa Valley Tennis Association & USTA Georgia Board of Directors. During his volunteer service time with both organizations, he made a great impact on tennis both in the Rome area and throughout the state of Georgia.

Bill also left his mark in tennis leadership by serving as captain of many league teams. In 2019, he received the USTA Georgia Male Captain of the Year Award for his efforts.

Visitation will be Thursday May 2nd at 1:00 PM at the New Armuchee Baptist Church, followed by a service at 4:00 PM.
