It is with great sadness to announce the passing of Georgia tennis legend Armistead Neely.

Armistead is a member of the Georgia Tennis Hall of Fame (Class of 2008) and Southern Tennis Hall of Fame (Class of 2014).

His contributions and accomplishments are numerous, here are a few highlights:

Played #1 for University of Florida, going undefeated in SEC competition for 3 years;

Professionally won 11 titles on five continents while playing in 5 Grand Slams;

Helped found satellite professional tennis as we know it today with the WATCH circuit, establishing a “minor league” circuit of pro tournaments to help players ascend up the ATP rankings with standardized events and regulations;

University of Alabama Head Coach 1977-1981;

5-time ITF World Senior Team Cup champion for the United States, 26 USTA National Championships victories

During the COVID-19 pandemic, we had the honor of visiting with Armistead and revisiting his contributions and accomplishments to tennis:

On behalf of the USTA Georgia Board of Directors, staff and members of the Georgia Tennis Hall of Fame, our thoughts are with the Neely family during this difficult time.
