Years Coaching High School Tennis: 13 years
Best High School Tennis Memory I’ve had is: King/Queen of the Court. We would play this game at the end of our tennis practice. Most of the students become very competitive when we play this game. Bragging rights and a boost of confidence to the winning pair.
We had to play a regular scheduled match and a make up match on the same day. The sun had already begun to set in the sky. As the last match was winding down a few of the players decided to pick up their
racquets and hit a few balls to each other. The boys’ and girls’ teams had already won both matches that day. Instead of going home, they wanted to play tennis.
Someone shouted to me “Let’s play King of the Court!”. I picked up my racquet and joined in. Everyone started to play this game and they were having so much fun. Someone got a text from a parent regarding her whereabouts and it was almost dinner time too. I will never forget the laughter, smiles and the lively energy.
At the end of the tennis season, we had a round robin tournament to crown the King/Queen of the Court.
Most of the players that year were beginners. This was their first year playing tennis and it was a great experience. That year, the girls’ tennis team won 2nd place in the region tournament. This year, the boys’ team is undefeated.
Tennis is a life-long sport. Both of my parents are still playing tennis. After they graduate from RCTCM, I hope the students on the White Tiger tennis team will continue to find joy in playing tennis too.
