USTA Georgia expresses our heartfelt sympathy on the passing of former USTA Alabama Executive Director Elaine Francis, a great friend to our organization during her years with the USTA.
Elaine dedicated much of her life to the sport of tennis in Alabama. She began as a passionate volunteer, serving for nearly a decade by organizing local and state junior tournaments and contributing her time and expertise to the junior ranking committee. In 1983, she began her full-time career as Co-Executive Director alongside Susan Briggs and then in 1994, assumed the sole role of Executive Director. She served USTA Alabama and USTA Southern in this role until her semi-retirement in 2016. She continued to serve part-time until fully retiring in 2020.
She was honored for her efforts by being inducted into the Alabama Tennis Foundation Hall of Fame in 2017.
We will remember Elaine’s contributions to the sport and her memory will live on forever.
