Team Georgia triumphed once again at the prestigious Southern Ozaki Junior Cup, securing their 28th championship title in a thrilling weekend of junior tennis competition.
The team, made up of Georgia’s top young players, displayed exceptional talent and teamwork, ultimately defeating North Carolina in the Gold Round with a final score of 22-14 on Sunday.
Team Georgia dominated their matches, showcasing strength and consistency. The team was undefeated over 4 matches, defeating Arkansas (34-2), followed by Tennessee (29-7). Qualifying for the gold round group with those 2 victories, the squad secured the title with victories over South Carolina (27-9) and North Carolina (22-14).
Zachary Szymanski earned the prestigious Rick Davison MVP Trophy for his remarkable play, leadership, team spirit, and sportsmanship. The trophy, named in honor of long-time USTA Georgia Director of Junior Competition Rick Davison, was personally awarded by Davison himself at the ceremony, further highlighting the honor.
The team’s success was bolstered by an extraordinary group of coaches, including Melanie Oudin (Lead Coach), Salif Kante, Marley Woods, and Emily Benken.
