MARIETTA, GA – USTA Georgia today has announced that Amy O’Connell of Marietta is the 2023 recipient of the prestigious USTA Georgia Presidents Award. At USTA Georgia President Eric Schmook’s sole discretion, the Presidents Award is given to a Georgia individual who has gone above and beyond in the previous year to help the Association fulfill its mission.
Amy has served as Executive Director of USTA Atlanta from July 2019 to present day. USTA Atlanta is the largest Community Tennis Association in the United States, both by membership and participation.
In her role, she is responsible for achieving the mission of USTA Atlanta by promoting and developing the growth of tennis throughout the metro Atlanta area. This includes, but not limited to building brand awareness of USTA Atlanta and its programs, increasing participation and maintaining a sustainable partnership with key stakeholders and constituents. Under Amy’s leadership, the Association had a banner year in 2023 with significant increases in both adult & junior program participation.
“I am incredibly grateful and humbled to receive the USTA Georgia President’s Award,” Amy stated. “I would like to express my deepest appreciation to USTA Georgia, its board and staff, for their support and dedication to growing the game at all levels and to its President Eric Schmook, whose leadership and commitment to growing tennis in Georgia is truly inspiring. I firmly believe in the power of tennis to bring communities together. Being able to do this alongside my team at USTA Atlanta has been a highlight of my career.”
In recognition of Amy’s service to the Association and Georgia tennis, USTA Georgia will be making a donation to the Georgia Tennis Foundation in Amy’s name.
Amy (along with other USTA Georgia annual awards winners) will be recognized at the USTA Georgia Community Tennis Development Workshop the evening of Saturday February 10th at the JW Marriott Buckhead.
