HBCU National Tennis Championships Announced

The 24th Annual HBCU National Tennis Championships return September 18–21, 2025, at the South Fulton Tennis Center (5645 Mason Road, South Fulton, GA 30349). This premier collegiate event will showcase 27 teams from 14 distinguished Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), spanning NCAA Divisions I and II, NAIA, and conferences including the MEAC, SWAC, SIAC, and CIAA.

With 216 student athletes and a total of 270 participants – including coaches and training staff – the tournament remains a cornerstone of HBCU athletic excellence and community celebration.

New Highlights for 2025:

· Alumni Red Ball Mixer Doubles Tournament: Kicking off Friday evening, this lively event invites HBCU alumni—tennis players and newcomers alike—for a fun, social doubles competition. USTA Southern will award $1,000 to the HBCU team participating in the Championships with the highest number of alumni registrants.

· High School Recruiting Showcase: Aspiring athletes will have the chance to shine in front of college coaches, with doubles matches on Friday and singles competition on Saturday. The showcase offers a unique opportunity to explore HBCU tennis programs and build connections for future collegiate careers.

· USTA Coaching: USTA representatives will be onsite to engage high school and collegiate players, parents, and coaches to promote membership and gather feedback on coach education and development needs within the HBCU community.

· Mini-College Fair: The mini-college fair connects high school students with HBCU representatives to explore admissions, scholarships, and academic programs – all in one engaging space.

“This championship is more than just a competition—it’s a celebration of heritage, excellence, and opportunity,” said Carl Goodman, Tournament Director. “We’re proud to expand the event this year with the alumni mixer, recruiting showcase, USTA Coaching, and college fair reflecting our commitment to honoring the past and investing in the future of HBCU tennis.”

Admission is free and open to the public. Matches and activities will run throughout the four-day tournament, and spectators are encouraged to come out, cheer on the athletes, and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of sportsmanship and school pride.
