MARIETTA, GA – USTA Georgia today has announced that South Atlanta tennis icon Sam Kennedy is the 2025 recipient of the prestigious Ruth Ryner Lay Award for Lifetime Achievement. The Ruth Ryner Lay Award is the highest honor bestowed by the Association and is given in recognition of continuous and distinguished service in an unselfish, dedicated manner over the span of a lifetime.
Sam has dedicated his life’s work in providing opportunities for children of all ages and backgrounds in the sport of tennis. His core belief still exists today, that youngsters learn life values and lessons that go far beyond the tennis court. As the founding member of the South Atlanta Community Tennis Association (SACTA), he has paved the way for over 25 years by creating possibilities for all participants to achieve their goals in both tennis and education. As a testament to that commitment, over 100 youth have used tennis as a catalyst for opportunity to further their education in college.
His previous deserved recognitions by USTA Georgia are numerous, including the 2013, 2015, 2018 & 2021 NJTL Chapter of the Year, the 2017 Family of the Year, the 2016 Richard C. Botsch Educational Merit Award and the 2025 Member Organization of the Year Award.
“I am incredibly honored and grateful for receiving such recognition for this highest honor bestowed by USTA Georgia”, Sam reflected. “This award is a testament to the passion and positive impact that can bring communities together to change the lives of underserved youth.”
Sam (along with other USTA Georgia annual awards winners) will be recognized at the USTA Georgia Community Tennis Development Workshop the evening of Saturday February 7th at the JW Marriott Buckhead.
