Georgia’s Adult 40 & Over State Championships Bring More Than 1,000 Players to Rome and Columbus

The road to a USTA League State Championship is never easy, and this weekend, more than 1,000 players from across Georgia will take the court after months of hard work, competition, and commitment.

From June 5–8, Georgia’s Adult 40 & Over State Championships will be contested at two locations. The 3.0 and 4.0 divisions will compete in Rome, featuring 48 teams and 582 players. Meanwhile, the 3.5 and 4.5 divisions will take place in Columbus, where 40 teams and 499 players will battle for state titles.

Reaching the State Championships is an accomplishment in itself. Every team competing this weekend earned its place by first winning its local regular season division and then advancing through city championship competition. Only the most successful teams from across the state have the opportunity to continue their journey to the state level, making each match this weekend the culmination of months of preparation and teamwork.

Tennis is widely recognized as one of the healthiest sports in the world. Research has shown that regular tennis participation can improve cardiovascular health, strength, agility, balance, and mental well-being. Studies have even linked tennis to increased longevity, with participants often experiencing significant long-term health benefits compared to those involved in many other sports and physical activities.

While the health benefits are substantial, the true appeal of league tennis extends beyond fitness. These championships bring together players from every corner of Georgia, creating opportunities for competition, camaraderie, and lifelong friendships. Teammates who began their season as local rivals now find themselves representing their communities on one of the state’s biggest league stages.

Over four days of competition, teams will compete for the chance to advance to sectionals while creating memories that will last long after the final point is played.

Whether in Rome or Columbus, this weekend’s Adult 40 & Over State Championships will showcase the dedication, perseverance, and passion that make league tennis one of the most rewarding experiences in the sport. As more than 1,080 players take the court across Georgia, they will be competing not only for a championship trophy, but for the opportunity to continue the journey!
