Macon Area Tennis Association receives inaugural USTA Southern Adaptive Tennis Award

Congratulations to the Macon Area Tennis Association, they are the inaugural recipient of the USTA Southern Adaptive Tennis Award.  They are recognized for excellence in their Net Therapy for Children on the Autism Spectrum program.

Now in its 7th year, Net Therapy provides 4 free 6 week clinics for children on the Autism Spectrum . Not only does it allow these children to experience tennis, it gives them the opportunity to interact with other children on the spectrum, it also allows their caregivers the opportunity to socialize with other parents experiencing similar life situations. The program relies heavily on volunteers, including a partnership with the local chapter of National Charity League. Because of the excitement and joy that the children express when they make real contact with the ball, most volunteers would emphatically say they receive more benefit than the children!

In addition, MATA will receive recognition from USTA Georgia at the upcoming Community Tennis Development Workshop in early February.
